Worst House on the Street Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you use worsthouseonthestreet.com and related services (the “Site” and “Services”).
We are the controller of personal data described in this policy, unless we state otherwise. Our company details appear in our Terms & Conditions.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect:
- Account and profile data: such as name, email address, phone number, role preferences (for example buyer and/or seller), and similar account settings. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider; we do not store your password on our application servers.
- Organisation data: if you create or join an organisation (for example an estate agency), information about the organisation and membership (such as organisation name, contact details, logo, and your role within it).
- Listing and content data: information you submit about properties or other content you publish or manage through the Services (including descriptions, media, pricing, location, and enquiry settings).
- Saved activity: such as saved properties, saved searches, alert preferences, and similar product features you enable.
- Lead and enquiry data: information you provide when you contact us, enquire about a listing, request partner services, or register interest in off-market or other opportunities.
- Payment and billing data: card payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. Stripe provides us with limited billing information needed to run paid features (for example payment status, customer and subscription identifiers, billing email, and invoice details).
- Support and communications: messages you send to us (including support requests) and related correspondence.
- Technical and usage data: such as IP address, device and browser information, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referring URLs, and diagnostics needed to operate and secure the Services.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Site and Services;
- Create and manage accounts, organisations, listings, and related features;
- Process payments, subscriptions, invoices, and billing enquiries for paid features;
- Facilitate enquiries and introductions you request (including to listing contacts and partner service providers);
- Send service messages (for example account verification, security notices, billing receipts, and listing or opportunity updates you request);
- Monitor use for security, fraud prevention, troubleshooting, and performance;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms;
- Analyse aggregated or anonymised information to understand how the Services are used.
Where UK data protection law requires a lawful basis, we typically rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the Services you request); legitimate interests (such as securing and improving the Services, preventing abuse, and understanding product usage, balanced against your rights); legal obligation; and consent where required (for example certain marketing preferences, which you can withdraw).
3. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:
- Service providers who help us run the Services (for example hosting, authentication, databases, email delivery, media storage, analytics, customer support tooling, and payment processing). These providers process data under appropriate contractual protections.
- Payment processors (currently Stripe) to take and manage payments for paid features. Their processing is also governed by their own privacy notices.
- Listing contacts and organisations when you submit an enquiry about a listing or otherwise ask to be put in touch.
- Partner service providers (such as financing, surveying, conveyancing, or design partners) when you request their services through the Site. We share the details needed to fulfil that request. Partners process data under their own policies.
- Organisation members where you belong to an organisation account (for example colleagues who administer listings or billing for that organisation).
- Professional advisers and authorities where reasonably necessary to protect our rights, users, or comply with law.
- A buyer or successor if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.
4. International Transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we take steps required by UK law (such as using appropriate contractual safeguards) to protect it.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We and our service providers may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site and Services (including to keep you signed in where you have an account), to measure and improve performance, and for advertising and analytics where applicable. Where required by law, we will provide notice and choice through a cookie banner or similar controls.
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Site or account features work.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, fulfil the purposes described in this policy, and meet legal, accounting, billing, dispute, and security requirements. Retention periods vary by data type (for example account data while your account remains active; billing records for statutory periods; support correspondence for a reasonable period). When we no longer need personal data, we delete or anonymise it where practicable.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Request correction or deletion;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Request data portability in some circumstances;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
If we have shared data with a partner or listing contact at your request, you may also need to contact them about data they hold. You can still contact us about what we shared.
To exercise your rights, email hello@worsthouseonthestreet.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
9. Children
The Services are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Third-Party Sites and Services
The Site may link to third-party websites or embed third-party services. Their privacy practices are their own, and we are not responsible for them.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date. Where changes are material, we may also provide additional notice (for example by email or in-product notice).
